About DJ Andross

Listening to his family's classical, international & traditional Mexican music records since the age of 3, a stamp of harmonies, vocals and rhythms was placed in his heart and soul. At a very young age, he already chose what records and tapes he preferred to listen to.

At the age of 12 years old, he found what would be the discovery of his lifetime journey. Electronic Music.

DJ Andross's journey began after listening to a CD introduced by one of his older brothers, it was titled "James Brown Is Dead" by L.A. Style (L.A. Style was a Dutch electronic dance music duo, founded and produced by radio host Wessel van Diepen, who also created Nakatomi and the very successful Vengaboys.

L.A. Style had short-lived success when their 1991 song "James Brown Is Dead" appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart, becoming the first EDM song of its kind (i.e. rave techno) to hit the Billboard pop charts). For Andross, it was a new world of music, a sound that changed his life in an instant. "I couldn't sleep without having a pair of earphones that I usually took from one of my brothers to listening to this music over and over again. I truly have fallen in love with the melodies, rhythms and sounds". Several months later, he began to record the tracks and made tapes, sharing them with his friends and family.

During his teenage years, he began attending parties which he became exposed to all kinds of different genres such as Latin house, Detroit techno, dj remixes, progressive house & trance. He began purchasing dance records and cds such as the Techno Trax & Techno Rave Compilations from Germany and Tresor, which were cds with techno tracks from the Tresor label & club in Germany. In the summer of 96', he bought a pair of old turntables and a mixer from a friend who spun hip hop records at that time. Andross got home, hooked them up and begin experimenting. By the mid and late 90s, EDM began taking shape for the better.

A year later, he got his first dj cd player, a Numark CDN-34. To be able to mix two tracks together, he had to learn two things first, how beat matching was done and how the music structure was arranged. After searching for several mixed cds, he ran across a label named Global Underground. (Global Underground is a music label founded in 1996 by Andy Horsfield and James Todd. The label symbolizes the international explosion of dance music during the 1990s and first manifesto for high-end DJs such as Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and Darren Emerson). Mixing tracks from different mixed cds, listening for countless of hours and practicing every day, he finally got his first mixed cd.  After that...it was time to go out, promote and start playing at the clubs!
